THE TACTICS OF FEAR, OUR INVISIBLE ENEMY
These indeed are challenging times, but Father God is faithful to preserve us for Himself. One of the enemy’s most potent weapon is fear, and Father God desires that we understand some of the tactics of the enemy.
Fear is a spirit. The most repeated command ‘Fear Not’ occurs 365 times in the Bible. It’s like Father God says “do not fear”, one for everyday throughout the year.
God’s desire is that we become a people of faith, hope and Love. The Lord desires that we are people who stand in confident trust in His character, His truth and His power.
Also, He desires that we are a people of hope who believe God is in charge of His creation and he will bring about His good purposes for it. God our Father desires that we are a people who live in loving relationship with Him and are secure in His love and protection of us.
When we don’t live like this, we may be living in fear which is the result of living in expectation of the enemy stealing, killing and destroying what belongs to us.
Fear is one of the first weapons the enemy throws at us to stop us believing the Word of God, but rather, causing us to believe the lies of the enemy. Fear cripples and we are unable to do what the Holy Spirit prompts us to do. Fear is built on “unbelief“. When we believe the enemy’s lies, it means that we are not trusting in the Lord’s character, truth and power. It is in this place of unbelief that the enemy takes ground. The enemy is very legalistic. God is our Father. However the enemy knows that God is also a Judge.
Unbelief is a sin, because we are choosing not to trust God. This choice brings our Father sadness.
The Bible says that we are in a Spiritual battle. Our battle is not against flesh and blood but against principalities and power (Ephesians 6:12-18). Satan, our invisible enemy, has only one agenda which is to kill, steal and destroy (John 10:10). We make the choice to agree with either his lies or the truth of God’s Word and we help empower what we choose to agree with. This is the open door through which fear enters to torment us, and stop us from obeying the Father.
God’s love is our weapon against fear. As we worship and believe and love on God, fear has to flee. Perfect love casts out fear (1 John 4:18). Rather than living in fear, Father God wants us to have faith. We are told that without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrew 11:6).
We are told to be self-controlled and alert because the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. We are therefore told to resist him (1 Peter 5:8-9), standing firm in the faith because the family of believers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
Paul told Timothy that God had not given him a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).
In this verse the word “fear” also means “ timidity, dread or faithlessness”. Notice that fear comes as an evil spirit to undermine our faith. Remember how we read in the old testament about an entire generation of the Israelites inability to enter the Promised land and had to be wiped out except Joshua and Caleb. Father God had to wait for fearless people to step forward, who would not listen to a demonic spirit that had convinced the previous generation that they could not go in to take the land He promised them.
Faith is the only way to connect with Father God if you want to get to your destiny with Him. Faith is powerful. Paul said “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17). The Greek term for the “word” here is “rhema.” This refers to a personal word from God. So it implies an ongoing hearing from God that builds faith in us. It is important that we spend time with the Father, loving on Him, feeding on His word and thereby growing in faith. This enables us to stand against the wiles of the enemy.
With all the trials and tribulations that abound, in our world today, the safest place John advises us to be (John 15:4) is to abide in Jesus, and He will abide in us. He helps us to understand that outside of Him, we can do absolutely nothing. We will bear no fruit, so it’s not worth our while. The closer we get to Jesus, the more intimate we become, and we find that even when the enemy tries to throw fear at us, we recognise the spirit for who it is and faith rises up in us and makes fear totally ineffective.
