How Good Is Your LORD

As I was waiting in the Presence of the Lord the other day, I started wondering about His goodness. The goodness of God is such a big and important topic, and we all have a responsibility as to what role we are going to play as regards telling the world about this. There has been a life long battle over this. Do we trust God goodness all the time? If we believed this, would we not act differently sometimes. It then occurred to me that , no-one except yourself, can talk about the goodness of God Almighty in your life. In other words, your God is only as good as you say He is. So if you choose to hide the great and amazing things that He is doing in your life, then you are doing well at hiding His goodness, if that is your plan. This really is what satan desires. If that is not your plan, then we need to re-order things, so we are not on the wrong side, thereby serving the wrong master. The enemy spends all his time making sure, we don’t experience the goodness of God for ourselves, so that we don’t share it with the world. So if the Lord makes sure that we experience His goodness, shouldn’t we be declaring it from mountain tops?

As we back up a little, I would like to share that the Goodness of God is the core of our Christian faith. It’s one of the attributes of God and also describes His very essence. Psalm 34 v 8; tells us “ Taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him.”

He is the foundation of goodness and of everything good. Everything God does, is designed for our good. As human beings, we are not inherently good. Our goodness comes from God.

The first place we see God declare His standard is in Genesis 1 v 31 where after He created the earth, He looked at it and said it was very good.

Also in Psalm 52 v 1 we read that the Goodness of God endureth forever. This implies that God will always be good. It implies that His goodness has no limit. His will always be the Creator of all good things, so we can rest in His good plans for each one of us.

This is a good place to state that we don’t earn God’s goodness. We don’t strive for it. It simply is given to us. Mathew 5 v 45 says that He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. Because we don’t earn it, it’s important that we are extremely grateful for it, and not take it for granted. God’s goodness is also very personal. When we realise the extent He goes to so we see how involved He is in every aspect of our lives, we can’t but enter into the realisation of how much we are loved and adored by Him.

You may be wondering why God is good . . . all the time, and why all the time . . . God is good. The simple answer is that God desires to draw us to Himself. We all know how satan deceived Adam and Eve and the Fall in the garden of Eden. Our Heavenly Father, simply wants us back to Himself. Remember, God didn’t make humans as robots, nor does He have us on reigns to control us. Much as He is a Sovereign God, He made us with a freewill. This freewill is for us to choose to love Him or to ignore Him completely.

Doesn’t this singular act show the magnitude of His goodness towards us, in that He allows us to choose to love Him. Any love that has to be controlled, is not true love, and our Father wants love from hearts that have been unconditionally and passionately given over to Him.

He then goes unto sacrifice His Son, Jesus Christ for our salvation, enabling us to hear the gospel, be forgiven of our sins and claim eternal life by accepting Jesus Christ as our Saviour. What greater way of showing His goodness to us could there have been. To cap it all, He blessed us with the Holy Spirit to enable us, be led in the right path, where we are assured of His goodness and mercy following us.

Finally, in Romans 2 v 4 ;the apostle Paul taught that the goodness of God leads us to repentance. It will leads us to change our mind and our inner man so that we accept Gods will for ourselves. It will lead us to give up our hearts of stone and take His heart of flesh.

If we are able to regularly count our blessings, and praise and thank the Lord for His goodness in our lives, it will lead us to really appreciate who God is to us, and what God is doing in our lives. Then, we will be ready and able to stand on mountain tops, and share to all that care to listen , how good our God is. We live in a world that doesn’t know how good He is, and as long as we keep our mouths shut, they won’t know how amazing a God He is. Also when we testify about how good Our God is, we are giving Him the permission to come do it again in other people’s lives.( Revelation 19 v 10b) . . . for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

So at every opportunity we have, let us share about the goodness of God in our lives, and thus enable others to give Him all the glory. In this way, we will be encouraging them to taste, and see that He is good.

Prayer….

Father, I am sorry for times, I have not bothered to testify of your goodness in my life. Please forgive me. I now understand the implications of my not testifying of your goodness. Please grant me the opportunity to share your goodness in my life. Fill my heart with gratitude for all that you do in my life, in Jesus’s Name, Amen.

God Bless You,

Mina Bajomo
