HE IS MY DELIGHT

Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart (Psalm 37:4). The word “delight” means to gain or to take great pleasure, satisfaction and happiness, or to give keen enjoyment. It could also be referred to as ecstasy, enchantment or gladness.

Delighting is a two-way process. David knew that the Lord delights in those who reverence and trust Him. These ones also put their hope in His unfailing love (Psalm 147:11).

God only tells us to do what is beneficial for us, and will bring Him glory. His asking us to delight in Him, will give us a smile, or feeling of joy or warmth.

Other things that we do that God delights in include, obeying His voice and keeping His commandments and laws. Also (Psalm 119:24) tells us that when we testify of God’s goodness, that delights Him.

So delighting in the Lord causes us to glorify and enjoy Him. This helps us get our lives into eternal focus and it prepares us for that unending activity of joy and praise.

Also when we delight in the Lord, God fulfils the desires of your heart and mine. He is our desire indeed.

We find yet another reason to delight in the Lord in Psalm 1v1:4. We read that those who delight in the law of the Lord are like trees planted along the river bed, bearing fruit in each season. We are told that their leaves never wither and they prosper in all they are called to do. In other words, delighting in the Lord produces spiritual stability and fruitfulness in our lives.

Delighting in the Lord enables us flourish as the tree that bears fruit so that we fulfil our God-given purpose. We will also produce food and shelter for all those who depend on us.

We will find that during challenging times, we will have nourishment stored up to sustain us, so we continue to have the spiritual stability and fruitfulness that God purposes that we have.

As we continue to delight in the Lord, we continue to be a resource and a blessing to the body of Christ. We are able to stand strong to provide strength to others around us. We remain content, stable and satisfied whatever the season.

So it’s important to learn to delight in the Lord. This write up has been about what it means and how David did this. Also we have spoken about why it’s important to delight in the Lord.

Next month, we will speak about how to delight in the Lord. It’s one thing to talk about it, but how exactly do we do this. Also, we will mention how not to delight in the Lord.

May the Lord bless us as we seek to delight more in Him. Amen.

God bless you,

Mina
