WAITING ON THE LORD

WAITING ON THE LORD

WAITING ON THE LORD

Isaiah 40 v 28- 31.

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary, and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall, but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Are you someone who is going through a time of “waiting on the Lord“? You may be wondering why is this necessary, why does the Lord not respond immediately. My challenge is urgent, why is the answer from the Lord taking so long?

I am here to encourage you today that much as this may be a painful and challenging time, God Almighty is doing a work in you and like a goldsmith when he has the gold in the flame of fire, he doesn’t take his eyes off you for even half a second. “Waiting on the Lord“ is not a passive activity. It involves being in a place of confident expectation and trust while navigating challenges.

As we study His word during this time, we are able to allow Him help us cultivate our faith.

We also find that we enter into a more desperate and focused time with Him that improves our prayer life as we hang on for dear life. The opportunity to be in the word and go deeper in our prayer life while we love Him with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, draws us into an intimate relationship with God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

We are also able to use our gifts to help others.

An important point to realize is that God’s timing is not ours, and we do not have His perspective that allows us understand His timing. We also don’t have His wisdom, neither are we aware of heavenly purposes. There’s absolutely no way that we would arrive at the same time. So we have to let go and let God unto the throne of our lives. We need to understand that He is the God who knows the end from the beginning (Isaiah 48 v 3-8). As a result, we can resign ourselves from the CEO job on the earth and allow Him take first place in our lives. He is all-knowing, and He can be trusted.

We are also told that His ways are different from our ways (Isaiah 55 v 8). When you think of how God chose to bring His Son into the world by the Virgin birth, in humble surroundings of a manger, with animals all around, you and I would never have arrived at that option. Yet, that was the way Jesus came to the earth to accomplish the purpose of our salvation, for us to become adopted as son (and daughters) of the Most High God.

So I feel the more important questions to ask are, how to wait on the Lord, and what do we expect to get when we wait well.

To wait on the Lord well, I would recommend that we posture our hearts in a place of love, faith, trust and hope. Our belief system depends on this.

The best time to learn about God’s sovereignty is when we are in a place of waiting on Him. The interest of God’s kingdom should always come above ours, and also we need to understand that He is working at conforming us to His image. This implies we remain in a state of yielding to His desires and timing.

When we place our hope in Him, we can expect the following:

1… Renewal of our strength.

This passage using the description of the eagle to explain certain things. Eagles are known for their sharp vision, powerful flight and fierce hunting. They have sharp talons for grasping prey or their goal, they have seen from so many miles away, so they fly down to grab it to the surprise of the prey.

Father God renews the believers life with the energy and strength seen in the eagle. The eagle molts, casting off his old feathers and growing new ones, thereby gaining a new lease on life. When we wait on Him, whatever age we are, He gives us the strength and vitality to do His work.

2… We will soar on wings like Eagles.

The ability of the eagle to soar, means to rise and move effortlessly to greater heights without unnecessary struggle. Soaring represents freedom, strength, and spiritual ascension. It is not by our strength or labour or our own mere human effort that destinies are fulfilled, but by grace and divine empowerment.

The eagle is able to soar to spectacular heights on wind currents, meaning as a child of God, no matter how old we are, we will gain new heights by the Spirit of God lifting us or propelling us. We will overcome difficulties using divine power. We will draw from God’s limitless supply rather than through our own limited resources. Just as the eagle uses storms to rise, we will do the same, with God testing our commitments and renewing us.

3… We will run and not grow weary.

As an eagle rises above, don’t allow distractions or negativity pull you down. Keep ascending, staying focused on the goals that God has given to you. Cast off the weight of low energy keeping your eyes on the things above. God’s supernatural strength will be made available to you as you wait on Him.

4… We will walk and not be faint.

This verse reminds us that inspite of our weakness, weariness and fatigue, we should turn our eyes to the Lord as our source of strength and power, and away from ourselves. Our Lord is able to satisfy our desperate need of our soul in this season of hope and trust.

In this way we can replace worry and anxiety with faith, and we can find endurance in everyday routine, and trust in God’s timing. When you feel overwhelmed, disconnect from your own power and connect to God’s power, letting Him help you emotionally and spiritually.

God’s strength enables believers to be like eagles, in that you can rise above difficult circumstances and trials, so you gain a higher perspective as you rely more on God’s strength.

Always remember it is Him, that you are “waiting on”, and surrender and trust daily.

Amen.
